Calgary AB. - Calgary filmmaker Corey Lee's award-winning short film "The Perfection of the Moment," screened at the 4th annual Canadian Filmmakers Festival in Toronto on March 25th, 2007 and won the Reel Canadian Indie Award, created to honour the film that exemplifies the truest form of independent filmmaking.
Writer, Director and Co-Producer, Lee, who wrote and directed the 2003 feature film "Defining Edward", completed "The Perfection of the Moment" late in 2005. The film has since won a 2006 Alberta Film & Television Award for best short film and gone on to screen at the 2006 Calgary International Film Festival's Alberta Centennial Award selection, the 2006 Edmonton International Film Festival and the 2006 Whistler Film Festival.
"The Perfection of the Moment" offers an unapologetic re-examination of one bad night, which unfolds as the narrator walks alone down a deserted city street, is threatened by drunks and called upon to question his own sexuality. The film stars Calgary actors Joel McNichol ("Defining Edward", "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford") and Gillian Carfra ("A Friend of the Family", "Dawn Anna").
"The Perfection of the Moment" is the first in a trilogy of short films adapted from Canadian author, John Gould's 2003 Giller Prize nominated collection, Kilter: 55 Fictions. Lee is currently in post-production on the second chapter, "What You're Ready For", starring celebrated Canadian actor Michael Riley.
The Canadian Filmmakers Festival is an event dedicated entirely to the celebration, promotion and advancement of Canadian filmmaking talent. The Festival is presented by Schweppes and works in association with Film Circuit a division of the Toronto International Film Festival Group. The Reel Canadian Indie Award is presented by William F.
