'Lost Ark' found in Mom's Basement

Caught Raiders: the Adaptation at the Calgary Film Fest last night and very pleased with myself that I did. If you have no clue what I am talking about, here is the deal: About 24 years ago, 3 kids from Mississippi decided to do their own Raiders of the Lost Ark, as faithful to the original as they could possibly be at 11 years old and knowing nothing about filmmaking. They stuck to their guns and finished the thing after seven years! Go read about how Spielberg got a copy and all the rest of it here. An amazing reminder of the power of a child's imagination and a wonderful lesson in why we should all bloody well finish what we start.

Internet Movie Data Base

Jack Lipnick: We're only interested in one thing, Bart. Can you tell a story? Can you make us laugh? Can you make us cry? Can you make us want to break out in joyous song? Is that more than one thing? Okay!
Mastrionotti: What do you do, Fink?
Barton: I write.
Deutsch: Oh yeah? What kind of write?
Barton: Well, as a matter of fact I write for the pictures.
Mastrionotti: Big f*ckin' deal.
Deutsch: You want my partner to kiss your ass?
Mastrionotti: Would that be good enough for you?
Barton: No, I--I didn't mean to sound--
Deutsch: What did you mean?
Barton: I--I've got respect for--for working guys, like you--
Mastrionotti: Jesus! Ain't that a load off!

The Internet Movie Data Base or IMDB has acknowledged the existence of Perfection. There isn't much info as yet (they don't even list me) but I expect stuff will trickle in over the next month or so. I've submitted the poster, which they tell me will be up in the next few days. If you have seen the film and dug it, please head on over there and vote and add a comment if you have the time. If not already a user, you'll have to register, but it is both easy and free. Much obliged.

"Perfection"

Mark your iCal, kids. The Perfection of the Moment is playing at the Calgary Film Fest which gets cranked up this Friday - September 22nd. The film is screening as part of the Alberta Centennial Award for excellence in Short film and I feel pretty fortunate to be in the company of some very talented filmmakers, Trevor Smith and Sandi Somers to name but two. The Alberta Shorts play Sunday Sept 24 @ 6:30pm and again on Sunday Oct 1 @ 7:15pm - both screenings at the Uptown Stage & Screen (612 - 8th Ave SW Calgary). Lots of other cool films to take in at CIFF. Go buy(?) a program at starbucks(??) OR just head over here. I think tickets are $10.
On a completely unrelated note. I recently flew home from the east coast US on air canada. Was flipping through their inflight magazine enRoute and found a funny article on Bill Shatner. Even better is a little goody I googled up by accident. Bill Shatner totally should have been the greatest Canadian.

Inaugural Blog

Happy Autumn.

Very pleased to have the site up and running. Dan Rigby, designer extraordinaire has done an awesome job and I will do all I can to keep content up to date and my blogs regular. Life as a filmmaker continues to be about deadlines, something that I do not foresee changing anytime in the immediate future. Those of you currently defending territory in the same universe know what I am talking about.

The big fall festival season in Canada (and abroad) is currently underway. "The Perfection of the Moment" will be appearing at a couple of festivals which launch this month. I will post all the screening info soon. Also, there are several features and shorts making the rounds that I am looking forward to seeing, time permitting. A few on the list: "Snow Cake", "The TV Set", "Half Nelson", "Missing Person", "Radiant City", "Summer Palace", "Unnatural & Accidental, "True Love", "Requiem", "That Beautiful Somewhere" and "Garage".

Also, if you have not seen the trailer for Little Children yet, get your biscuit over there.
