"What You're Ready For" wins at EIFF

Calgary AB. - Calgary filmmaker Corey Lee's short film "What You're Ready For", the 2nd chapter of his Kilter Trilogy, picked up the award for Best Alberta Short Film at the Edmonton International Film Festival last weekend.

The film is adapted from the 2003 Giller Prize nominated collection Kilter: 55 Fictions, by John Gould. Based on the story of the same name, What You're Ready For deals with an emotionally devastated man who seeks truth in the words of the charismatic self-help guru who stole his wife. The film stars multiple Gemini Award winning actor Michael Riley ("Race to Mars", "This is Wonderland") and Stephen Park ("The Englishman's Boy", "Da Vinci's Inquest").

"The award for Best Alberta Short is a great honour, especially considering the Edmonton International Film Festival has, time and again, some of the best programming I've ever seen. They always amass so many great films each fall, and films that are a little off the beaten path, that are likely not going to be in the theatre three weeks after the festival ends," says Lee, adding "I admire the adventurous spirit that is apparent in their program. It's wonderfully inspiring to us filmmakers. And that's what Kerrie (Long) and Michael (Hamm) and everyone at the festival do so well in addition - they support the films and the filmmakers together - almost as if they were one entity. It is an incredibly encouraging and nurturing gathering of artists and audience. I always feel appreciated and welcome in Edmonton and I hope I'm able to screen a film there every fall."

Many thanks go out to the amazing cast and crew of the film, to Frame 30 Productions and Kerrie Long, Michael Hamm and everyone at the Edmonton International Film Festival, and also to all the wonderfully talented filmmakers screening during the festival, including but not limited to Karen Hines, Trevor Anderson and Mark Montefiore.

"What You're Ready For" was made possible by the generous support of Bravo!FACT, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, ACTRA Calgary, Panavision Calgary, MTM, joeMedia Group, Six Degrees and Studio Post.
