Corey Lee - Writer / Director / Producer
Corey Lee is a multi-talented artist who has worked in many facets of filmmaking. Born in Edmonton, Alberta and educated at the Alberta College of Art and Design and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology's Film Program, he is known for his debut feature film, Defining Edward, a dark, edgy and vibrant story of one man's fight to unlock the truth about his own troubled past. The film premiered in Toronto at the 2003 ReelWorld Film Festival, was an official selection of the 2003 Calgary International Film Festival and aired across Western Canada on Corus Entertainment's Movie Central in 2004 and 2005.
In late 2005, Lee began working on a trilogy of short films to be produced through CHUM Television's Bravo!FACT program. The "Kilter Trilogy" connects three short films adapted from the 2003 Giller Prize nominated collection, Kilter: 55 fictions, by Canadian author, John Gould.
The first film in the trilogy, The Perfection of the Moment, won a 2006 Alberta Film & Television Award for best short film after garnering seven nominations, and was a finalist for the 2006 Calgary International Film Festival's Alberta Centennial Award selection for excellence in short filmmaking. In 2007 the film received the Reel Canadian Indie Award from the Canadian Filmmakers Festival in Toronto. The film has screened at a number of highly regarded Canadian festivals including: Edmonton, Whistler and the touring Prairie Tales, and was invited to the Short Film Corner at the 2007 Festival de Cannes.
His latest film, What You're Ready For, is the second chapter in the trilogy, and stars renowned Canadian film and stage actor, Michael Riley. What You're Ready For will continue it's run on the festival circuit following it's premiere at the 2007 Calgary International Film Festival in September. In addition to his dramatic work, Lee has directed and produced music videos for celebrated Western Canadian alt-folk hero, Lorrie Matheson, and more recently, the captivating singer-songwriter, Anita Athavale.
Lee is currently writing the final Kilter film, In Translation, with author, John Gould. In parallel, he is in post-production on his new short film ClimaXXX: a love story, and is also crafting the television/web series, Fur Nation He has several feature film projects in development, including: Of Winds and Dragons, Fixer, Wrecking Ball, All Things Not Forgotten, and the clone comedy, Imperfekt.
